About the event
Presentation Summary
This event aims to deepen your understanding of personality theories, particularly in comparison with other psychological theories (including trait theories). Richard is building towards a potential PhD project around this convergence of theory.
We will explore what kind of entities the functions of type truly are, and consider the challenges involved in defining their key attributes. We will also look at how their existence might be supported by reference to modern psychological theory, leading to a repositioning of type in future research.
Key questions that may be covered include:
How do the functions differ from traits?
Why do function definitions vary so widely?
What is the core phenomenology of the 8 functions?
Why is it difficult to convince trait fundamentalists about functions?
What ideas and research are there to build on for the future?
Nothing restricts Type's capacity to raise human potential more than prejudice and rejection from the mainstream psychology community. So, working towards greater acceptance may hold the key for unlocking it.
